City accepts bid for street paving projects

The city of Philadelphia accepted a bid totaling $968,320 for a street paving project that was put on hold for a year.

Aldermen voted 4-0 to accept APAC’s bid on a 2023 project. This was the only bid turned in. Alderman James Tatum was not present.

“Last year, we had trouble getting materials and the contractor was tied up on other jobs,’ said Mayor James Young. “He had too much on his hands and couldn’t get to us. This amount of paving is what we intended to do last year.”

Custom Paving was the original contractor with a bid of around $792,000.

“They got the bid on the job and asked for an extension,” said Street Department Director Pat Gray. “Then the price of inflation made the cost of asphalt rise up so high that they couldn’t honor the contract so they had to decline it.”

Young said he is expecting APAC to start by the end of the month. The city’s list of streets to be paved is as follows:

• Robinhood Circle entrance, from the Kosciusko Road to the split;

• Robinhood Circle, right split to back street;

• Robinhood Circle, left split to back street;

• Robinhood Circle, back street;

• Shelby Drive;

• Sherwood Drive;

• Crockett Avenue, Columbus to Myrtle;

• Knight Street, Williamson to Carla;

• Eastover Drive, Williamson to Hwy 16;

• Walnut Avenue, Byrd to Range;

• Line Street, Holland to subdivision;

• Terri Drive, Golf Course to Carla;

• Lewis Avenue, Gum to Chestnut;

• Rea Street, Railroad to Byrd;

• West Myrtle, Wells Lamont loading dock;

• Dees Avenue, Williamson to 375;

• Pearl Street, Jericho Loop;

• Jericho Avenue, Pearl 4-way to Front St;

• A Avenue, Adams to Northwest;
