Checkpoint results in felony case

A Neshoba County man has been charged with felony drug charges and disorderly conduct after fleeing from deputies at a traffic checkpoint on Black Jack Road early Monday, the authorities said.

The man, Delanovka Dixon, 42, 194 Frog Level Road, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, fleeing arrest and disorderly conduct.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said deputies encountered Dixon during a traffic checkpoint just minutes after midnight on May 29. At the time deputies encountered him, Clark said Dixon was described as “cooperative but nervous.”

Dixon, who was driving his girlfriend’s black Chevy Sonic, was found to have crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after a search of the vehicle. According to Clark, Dixon had been cooperative until deputies put him under arrest. Dixon tried to flee on foot at that time.

“He gave them a pretty good struggle,” Clark said. “He was disorderly from that point on.”

After deputies caught Dixon, he reportedly began to resist arrest before deputies could subdue him and bring him into custody.

Clark said Dixon picked up the disorderly conduct charge at the Neshoba County Jail when deputies attempted to book him.

As of Tuesday, Clark said Dixon remained in custody on a $9,500 bond.
