The Choctaw Health Center received its first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday evening.

The Phase I priority for the vaccine doses delivered by Indian Health Services is healthcare workers and first responders.

Choctaw Health Center has set up an ultra-low temperature freezer on site to store the recently-approved Pfizer vaccine.

The arrival of the vaccine comes at a time when COVID-19 cases continue to rise on the Reservation, as well as throughout Neshoba County.

"This is an exciting and historical moment for the hospital and Tribe's effort in the fight against the Coronavirus Disease," officials said.

Choctaw Health Center is the first hospital in Neshoba County to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Tribal officials.

The vaccine arrived at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and was announced just after midnight.

Phase 1 priority given to healthcare workers and first responders.
