Mrs. Crapps, a resident of the Branch community in Scott County, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 79.

Born in Bryan, TX, February 19, 1943, Mrs. Crapps was a Chemistry and Physics teacher for 50 years at Leake Academy. A 27 time Star Teacher Award recipient, she retired in 2019. She received the MAIS Teacher of the Year Award in 2011.  She was a 1961 graduate of Columbia (MS) High school and a 1965 graduate of Millsaps College where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and the Millsaps Singers.  

She leaves behind her husband of 33 years Billy D. Crapps of Branch, a son James R. Allen, Jr. of Carthage, MS, a daughter Ellen A. Bevon (Charlie) of Hattiesburg, MS, Randy Crapps (Lori) of Conway, AR. Donna Alford of Branch, Kevin Crapps of Branch; grandchildren Morgan Ann Bevon, Cameron Cooper Bevon, Delyan Alford, Dillon Alford, Micah, Elizabeth and Noah Crapps, 5 great grandchildren and 2 nieces.

She was predeceased by her father and mother John A. and Kathleen Bullard Rodgers, her brother John A. Rodgers, Jr. and her sister Tru Rodgers Arcuri. 

Services and interment were at Branch Baptist Church cemetery Wednesday, January 4, 2023, with Bro. Geary Walton officiating. Pall bearers were Delayn Alford, Dillon Alford, Kendall Pigg, Jimmy Crapps, Jeremy Crapps and Jason Roberson.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
