Businessman Lane Taylor will seek Branning's state Senate seat
Lifelong Neshoba County resident and businessman Lane Taylor announced Friday he will seek the state Senate seat being vacated by state Supreme Court Justice-Elect Jenifer Branning.
“It is with great excitement that I announce that following prayer and careful consideration with my family I am running to serve as our next state senator,” Taylor said in a release.
“As senator, I will use my experience and qualifications as a small businessman along with my passion to serve others to be an effective, conservative, strong common sense leader for District 18.”
“My wife, Jordan, and I have two children, and I want to keep this district, and our state, as safe and prosperous as possible for my family and every family,” said Taylor. “As senator, I will fight to keep our district safe by backing our law enforcement officers and opposing illegal immigration in any part of Mississippi while supporting President Trump’s deportation efforts. I’ll also fight to keep us safe from mandates that impede our civil liberties or negatively impact small business owners. I will also always fight to protect and strengthen the 2nd Amendment”
Lane, the owner and founder of Lane Taylor Auction Company, said he knows that jobs and the economy are vital issues facing our state, and he offers a unique experience in addressing both the need for new jobs and relief to inflation that is impacting all Mississippians. He also has vowed to protect taxpayer funds by seeking to run government like a business, identify non-essential areas to eliminate/trim the budget, and oppose wasteful spending to prevent any tax increases.
Taylor says his experience in small business didn’t begin with his company but with watching his mom, Jane Taylor, operate her small business, Kinderdomes Daycare, in Philadelphia.
In addition to safety, jobs and economic issues and financial responsibility, Taylor said he is committed to keeping infrastructure a priority and sustaining the advancements Sen. Branning implemented as Transportation Committee Chair, saying that our next senator must be committed and able to work with MDOT, local leaders, and federal leaders to advance the critical road and bridge projects and sustain the advancements and projects she implemented.
Taylor also thanked the many agriculture producers who encouraged his candidacy and vowed to stand with them to secure and grow the agriculture economy in District 18 and across the state, saying that he learned at a young age through FFA how vital agriculture is to our state.
Lane and his family attend The Way Community Church.
District 18 includes Leake, Neshoba and Winston counties.
Gov. Tate Reeves will set the special election date following the vacancy created when Branning is sworn into the Mississippi Supreme Court on Jan. 6.
Mississippi law requires candidates to run “Independent” in special elections, but if elected, Taylor, a lifelong Republican voter and advocate, said he would serve as a Republican senator.
