Branning sworn in as state Supreme Court Justice
Former state Sen. Jenifer Branning of Philadelphia was sworn in as a Mississippi Supreme Court justice during a ceremony at the state Capitol in Jackson on Monday.
“Thank you, everyone, for your help, support, and prayers over the last several months,” Branning said in a Facebook post. “I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve you on the MS Supreme Court!”
Branning secured her seat on the state’s highest court by defeating incumbent Justice Jim Kitchens in a closely contested race that advanced to a runoff in December. She won by about 1,440 votes.
After taking the oath of office on Monday, a reception followed in the Rotunda. To celebrate at home, Branning will host an event on Monday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. at the Ellis downtown. A reception will follow in the Green Room.
Meanwhile, lifelong Neshoba County resident and businessman Lane Taylor announced that he will run for the state Senate seat vacated by Branning.
