Funeral services for Miss Barbara Ann Mowdy will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2021, with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at McClain-Hays Funeral Home, and a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Mack Alford and Dr. Billy James officiating.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Miss Barbara Ann Mowdy departed this life on Sunday, March 7, 2021. She was born on March 2, 1943, and lived most of her life in Neshoba County.  Miss Mowdy graduated from Neshoba County Schools and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from The University of Southern Mississippi (formerly known as Mississippi Southern College).  Upon graduation from USM, she obtained her master’s degree from Mississippi State University.   She began her career in education in 1965 in Long Beach, Mississippi, and spent the last twenty-three years of her career as a math instructor at Philadelphia High School where she retired in 1993.  Miss Mowdy was also adjunct faculty for East Central Community College from 1991 until her final retirement in 2004.

Miss Mowdy truly had a love for teaching, whether at school in the classroom, or at home, assisting her multiple nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews with their math homework.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery Green Mowdy and Fannie Jewel Mowdy, her brothers Morrice Mowdy and Billie Mowdy, and her nephew, Gilbert Mowdy. 

Miss Mowdy is survived by her nieces Gwen Ryals, Reba Fryery (Robert), Wanda Savell (Mel), Susie Strickland (Larry), and her nephew Chris Mowdy (Renee), as well as a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
