Authorities catch suspect who escaped while being transported to Winston County Jail

Authorities apprehended a Grenada man who escaped custody after he was brought in on grand larceny charges.

The suspect, Demarquese Gibson, 20, of Grenada was arrested and charged with grand larceny on Monday, June 21, in the evening.

Authorities reported that while being transported to the Winston County Jail, Gibson, upon arrival at the jail escaped on Tuesday, June 22.

He was apprehended Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia Police Detective Bobby Pattillo said Gibson was apprehended around 2:30 p.m. in a wooded area in Winston County.

“Demarquese Gibson has been captured and is currently being held at Winston County Jail,” Pattillo said.

Gibson was reportedly apprehended near Grace Christian School in Louisville.

Pattillo said Gibson’s grand larceny charge stemmed for 2021 Dodge Challenger Gibson is believed to have stolen from Griffis Motors on Holland Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 21.

Gibson was arrested later that evening in Grenada. The vehicle has also been recovered.
