Audrey M. Myers passed away in Portland, Oregon, on November 29, 2022. Audrey was born in Neshoba County on June 2, 1926, to Albert Levi and Addie Bland. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia and was a lifelong member of the Beacon Street Baptist church.

She married William Talmadge Myers on November 23, 1947, and immediately moved to Virginia where Talmadge served  in the Army. During his 21 years of service, they lived in Virginia, Japan, Kentucky and Arizona. Talmadge retired in 1961 and they returned to Neshoba County and lived in the Forestdale community until moving into the city.

Audrey’s love for her family, her hometown and her beloved Mississippi was evident in all she did…she never lost her soft southern accent or forgot her roots. She loved gardening and would choose digging in the dirt over any other activity and to say she had a “green thumb” is definitely an understatement! She had a sharp sense of humor, was a great cook and was always asked to bring her fried rice to the family reunions. She was a meticulous housekeeper, avid gardener and loved pets.

In May of 2007, Audrey moved to Portland, Oregon, to be close to her daughter.  The two of them spent a lot of time together – laughing, sharing memories, lunches, visiting parks and gardens, long drives in the northwest countryside, shopping and, most importantly, sharing chai teas.

Her life graced the world so beautifully and now shines bright and new in heaven. This world is not our home and she always said “this body is just the old house I live in”.  Now she has a new body and a new home. While her family and friends know that she is at peace and filled with joy, we know our lives will never be the same.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Hogan (Richard) of Portland, Oregon, and son, William (Billy) N. Myers (Teri) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Two grandsons – Michael Shawn Humphreys (Anetra) of Union, MS and Joshua Jordan Myers of Baton Rouge, LA, sister, Jeanette Ellingburg of Brandon, MS, brother-in-laws David Myers, Jr. and Sam Jones, Jr. of Philidelphia and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Talmadge, parents Albert Levi and Addie Bland, sisters Winnie, Melba, Wevette and Mildred and brothers Rupert and Bruce.

Interment will be at New Harmony Baptist Church at a date to be determined. Remembrances can be made to the National Alzheimers Association.
