Arts Council ready for 2 upcoming plays

The Philadelphia Neshoba County Arts Council will present two comedy-themed plays from Sept. 30 through Oct. 3.

One play is titled “Jack vs. Jill” and the other is titled “Super Scary.”

"We all know the ending to the nursery rhyme, Jack & Jill. But is that the way it really happened?” said Kinsey Goldman president of PNC Arts Council. “This is the court case that you, the audience, will get to help decide. Who's guilty, Jack or Jill?"  

“Super Scary” is a comedy of Halloween-themed stories with a bit of a twist in that two first-time directors will helm the productions. 

"This is our third-year mentor directors’ program, which means it is people who have never directed students, adults or whoever," Goldman said.

The two directors are Alisha Savell and Posey Palmer who have both been in productions with the PNC Arts Council in past years. 

Savell of Philadelphia is in school at Meridian Community College. Palmer is a junior at Neshoba Central High School and hopes to get her degree in Creative Arts and Theater at New York University. Kinsey Goldman is the mentor director of the plays and is teaching Savell and Palmer about production theater.

The plays, which each last approximately 30 minutes will be presented at 6 p.m. on Sept. 30 and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 and again at 2 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Northside Park Senior Citizens Center at 100 Burt Drive in Philadelphia.

Evening performance tickets, available at the Depot, are $15 for non-members and $10 for members of the PNC Arts Council. Afternoon performances tickets are $10 for non-members and $5 for members.

"For the evening performances, we are doing a full meal," Goldman said.

Tickets also will be available at the door of the Senior Center on the day of the performances. Seating is limited, and people are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.
