Annual Fore a Cure golf tournament postponed due to COVID-19

The Fore For A Cure golf tournament has been postponed until next spring because of the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic.

The golf tournament is a local fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society. In the past two years, it has raised around $100,000 to help in the fight against cancer.

“We have pushed it off until spring,” said Stan Webb, plant manager at Weyerhaeuser in Philadelphia. “But I still encourage people to give what the can to the cancer society. The COVID may go away one day but cancer isn’t going anywhere.”

The golf tournament has been held each year at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Course. It originally started as Weyerhaeuser’s fund-raiser for Relay For Life. But as interest dwindled in Relay For Life, the golf tournament evolved into Relay had been.

“I’m hoping next spring, we will be able to have the golf tournament, and something related to Relay For Life,” Webb said. “Right now, I am encouraging people to give what they can.”

Webb said Weyerhaeuser has some grant money available for good causes, and some of that will be going to the American Cancer Society.

“I am not sure how much it will be but it will be better than nothing,” Webb said. “Cancer is still with us.”
