Aldermen sign off employee actions
It was a brief meeting at City Hall last week, as aldermen gathered to approve a handful of agenda items ahead of Tuesday’s special election.
Among the actions taken at the April 15 meeting, the board unanimously approved the termination of a man from the Cemetery Department, effective April 7.
Aldermen also voted to give a $1 per hour probationary raise to Courtney Stephens of Animal Control. The motion passed unanimously.
In preparation for The Church at the Arc’s Easter service, the board approved a temporary closure of Byrd Avenue in front of the Ellis Theater—from Main Street to Beech Street—on Sunday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Additionally, aldermen unanimously approved a sanitation exemption for Suites 1 and 2 at 301 Range Avenue.
The board then entered into executive session to discuss legal matters. No action was taken.
