6 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Neshoba

COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state reached a record high this week as state health officials warn that another surge could come following the Thanksgiving holidays.

Meanwhile, Neshoba County reported an additional six deaths over the last week attributed to the virus.

The Mississippi State Department of Health, as of Tuesday afternoon, had not updated their report detailing school infections.  

Last week, Neshoba Central Elementary was reporting 20 positive cases amongst students and 13 amongst teachers and staff. 

Neshoba Central Middle School reported 16 cases amongst students and Neshoba Central High School reported 31 similar cases. There are less than 10 teachers and staff who have confirmed positive between those two schools. 

Philadelphia Elementary and Philadelphia High School both reported no increase in cases in the last two weeks, with PHS reporting 18 cases amongst students and the elementary school with 1-5 cases.

The total cases here, as of Tuesday, were 2,249, an increase of 85 in a week. The state reported 121 COVID-related deaths in Neshoba County, an increase of six within the last week.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has reported a total of 1,336 positive cases among Tribal members.

The Tribe saw an increase of 13 positive cases within the last week.

The Tribe has tested 7,628 members, with 6,185 negative results. Of the positive cases, 1,240 have recovered, 88 have died and three remain hospitalized. The Tribe reported three new deaths within the last week.
