7 now charged with murder as arrests climb to 12 in shooting death

Six more people have been arrested — three on murder charges — in connection to a Dec. 27 shooting between two rival groups that killed an innocent bystander, Police Chief Eric Lyons said Thursday.

Six other people were arrested last week, bringing the total number of arrests to 12 — seven on murder — in the incident police described as a shootout between two groups.

Tommie “Tom Tom” Warren, 31, a bystander, was struck by a stray bullet at a house on Martin Luther King Jr. and later died en route to a hospital in Jackson. Lyons said a pizza delivery person was at the house at the time of the shooting.

“We are still investigating, and it is possible there will be more charges,” Lyons said after the latest arrests. “A lot of individuals were involved in the whole thing.”

Warren is believed to have been the only victim of the incident and is not believed to have been an intended target.

“In reference to the attempted murder charges, there was an intended subject that one group targeted and shot at several times in an attempt to kill,” Lyons said. “That (person) was not injured, but instead a stray bullet struck and killed Tommie Warren.”

The arrests announced Thursday:

• Madison Savage, 20, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and accessory after the fact.

• Drexton Gladney, 21, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and accessory after the fact.

• Kendarius Neal, 17, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and accessory after the fact.

• Kevin Carter, 17, was charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a crime.

• Jarren McBeath, 18, was charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a crime.

• Demondre Johnson, 15, was charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Lyons said that all of those arrested will be charged as adults.

Lyons said of those arrested last week that Jakenzie Wilson, Zykeus Macon, Jacori Reynolds and Dartavian Boyd have all picked up additional charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime in addition to previous charges.

Last week, Lyons announced the arrest of six other individuals involved in Warren’s death:

• Boyd, 18, of Sherwood Drive, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

• Wilson, 22, of Cora Street, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

• Reynolds, 19, of North Donald Avenue, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

• Macon, 22, of Samp Street, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

• Meroski Harrington, 21, of Cajun Lane, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

• James Carter, 22, of Coleman Street, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
