A $576,790 Philadelphia Municipal Airport runway lighting contract was awarded to Webster Electric Co. of Meridian.

The board voted to go with Webster at a regular meeting last Tuesday, contingent on a pending FAA $661,000 grant. The city’s part in the grant will be 5 percent. The FFA will fund 90 percent and the state will fund 5 percent.

Will Pentecost of Allen Engineering told the board three bids were received.

“All were good bids but we are recommending Webster as the lowest and best bid,” Pentecost said. “The project will include all of the runway taxi lighting, new navigational equipment, new vault, new regulator. We are basically redoing the whole electrical system out there. New wiring and conduits. We are going to all LED lighting. The blubs should be more efficient and last longer.”

Other bids were from Tony Watson Electric from Brandon, $585,005 ;  and Lewis Electric from Flowood, $617,950.

The board also voted to pay an invoice to Allen Engineering totaling $1,136 for work on the airport apron pavement project.
