5 new COVID deaths reported here
Five new deaths attributed to COVID-19 were reported within the last week as Neshoba County also added another 144 positive cases.
Twenty-three percent of the county’s total positive cases came during the month of December as health officials warned the holidays could create another surge.
Health officials continue to warn that large gatherings are dangerous.
The total number of cases in Neshoba County now stands at 2,931. There have been 139 reported deaths.
New cases continue to increase among Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians tribal members, too, with another 53 reported in the last week.
The Tribe had 53 new COVID-19 cases within the last week compared to 51 new cases the week before, and 27 cases the week before that. In total, 1,485 Tribal members have tested positive for COVID-19. The Tribe has reported 90 deaths from the virus, with four current hospitalizations.
Neshoba County is among over half the counties in the state under a mandatory mask ordinance by Gov. Tate Reeves that remains in effect until Jan. 15, 2021.
