A Preston man has been arrested after the authorities seized just under 30 mature marijuana plants growing in a vegetable garden outside his mobile home, Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said.

Ricky Leon Files, 67, 16460 Highway 21 north, Preston, was arrested and charged with manufacture of a controlled substance.

Jail records show Files turned himself in on Aug. 4, around 9:30 a.m., and posted bond later that afternoon.

Clark said on Aug. 2, at approximately 4 p.m., Neshoba County Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics field officers, seized 27 mature marijuana plants from the residence on Highway 21 north.

Deputies had received an anonymous tip that stated the marijuana plants were visible from the highway.

Officers traveled to 16460 Highway 21 north around Preston and were overtaken by the smell of raw marijuana from the roadside, Clark said.

Officers observed 27 mature marijuana plants growing in a vegetable garden adjacent to a mobile home. The marijuana plants, along with several tomato plants were visible from the highway.

“Officers documented a manicured area, near the mobile home, that revealed recent care for the plants, watering and fertilization,” Clark said.

The garden revealed several impressions that indicated recent removal of plants.

Files was not at the property at the time of the raid and turned himself in later.
