Two people died in a house fire on the Choctaw Indian Reservation the day after Christmas, the authorities said.

The fire was reported in the early morning hours on Oswald Road, Tribal officials said.

Misty D. Brescia, Director of the Office of Public Information for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, confirmed the Dec. 26 house fire with fatalities in the Pearl River community.

“Once the fire was out,” Brescia said. “The fire crew found two bodies inside the dwelling. Identification of these individuals will not be disclosed at this time. Authorities in Choctaw continue to investigate, and no other information will be released at this time.”

Information provided by the Tribe's Department of Public Safety shows that the fire started at around 1:30 a.m. on Oswald Road.

Choctaw Fire Department responded and, upon arrival on the scene, Brescia said, found a fully engulfed home and an investigation continues, officials said.
