12-3 Lady Rebels earn two more victories on the diamond

The Leake Academy softball team picked up two more wins this past week with a pair of run-rule victories.

The Lady Rebels hammered Hillcrest 16-1 on Monday and pounded Park Place 16-2 on Tuesday.

Leake improves to 12-3 on the season.

Leake was scheduled to travel to Magnolia Heights on Monday but that game was canceled because of expected inclement weather from Hurricane Ida. Leake was also scheduled to play at East Rankin on Tuesday in their only scheduled action of the week.

The Lady Rebels battered the defending 5A champions once again with a three-inning, run-rule victory on Monday.

Hillcrest scored one in the first before Leake answered with 11 runs in the bottom of the frame. The Lady Rebels finished off with five runs in the third for the final margin.

Leake had 11 hits in the contest as Miley Billey was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Lily Mcdonald was 2-for-3 with a grand slam home run while Caroline Cheatham was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Jenna Chamblee doubled and scored two runs while Emeri Warren and Ella Bell each scored two runs apiece. Grace Maxey also had two stolen bases.

Raylea Atkinson pitched all three innings to pick up the win, giving up one run on three hits while striking out three.

The Lady Rebels needed just four innings to take a run-rule win over the Lady Crusaders on Tuesday in district play.

Leake scored five in the first and second innings and added three in the third and fourth innings to take the win.

Leake had 14 hits in the contest as Warren was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four runs scored. Olivia Rudolph was also 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs while Emmajane Lepard was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Chamblee was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored while Miley Billie scored four runs and had three RBIs. Grace Maxey doubled and had two RBIs as well. 

Lynleigh Burt pitched all four innings and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out six to pick up the win.
