Local runners fare well in State Games 5K

There were plenty of local and area competitors involved in the State Games of Mississippi 5K Roadrace which was held Saturday at Bonita Lakes Park in Meridian.

Tyson Pompelia of Meridian won the race with a time of 18:11.2.

The top local finisher was McCoy Johnson who finished fifth overall with a time of 22:12.6.

Other local finishers and their place were as follows: 13th - Kynee Bell; 15th - Allison Meely, 23rd- Hauseka York; 24th - Thomas Ben; 26 - Jashaunique Steve; 27th - Casaja Phillips; 28th - Ahraya Williams; 36th - Leonard Thomas; 40th - Coby McMillan; 41st. Moe Bell; 42nd. Shanna Hickman; 44th. Elyse Willis; 53rd. Treyhon Ben; 54th Jacob McMillan; 63rd Heather Cameron; 67th Jason King; 68th Kameron McMillan; and 69th Tamara Hawthorne.

Anastasia Ben came in second in the one-mile fun run.
