Xplosion faces toughest test of summer with tournament
By STEVE SWOGETINSKY
Sports Editor

The Xplosion traveling fast-pitch softball team faces what may be its toughest test of the summer this weekend when the Philadelphia-based team enters the USFA Gulf South State World Series Qualifying Tournament which will be held in Daphne, Ala.

"Oklahoma City was tough, but this tournament will have three or four Gold teams playing in it," Coach Craig Martin said. "Those teams are made up of players whose players are being looked at by Division I schools. There are teams coming from Louisiana, the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Florida.

"The field is really going to be strong. We may go over there and go 0-4 but it really doesn't matter. We are looking forward to playing against the best competition we can find."

The Xplosion won the Midsummer Classic Tournament last weekend which was held in Brandon. But they had to rebound after losing a pair of pool games on Friday night.

"The games were pool games and didn't count, but we didn't play well," Martin said. "We came back the next day and beat both of the teams that beat us."
