The Union High School baseball team split a pair of Region 5-2A games with Enterprise last week.
The Yellowjackets entered the week with a 5-1 record in the region and 9-5 overall record.
"We played some good baseball," Coach Dustin Hamrick said. "We never quit and getting past Enterprise in the second game was a big win for us."
Weather permitting, the Yellowjackets were to host Clarkdale on Tuesday and visit the Bulldogs on Friday in another region series. On Saturday, they were to visit Leake Central.
The Bulldogs would score two runs in the final inning to take the win over Union.
Dustin Bates was tagged with the pitching loss. He finished with seven strike outs.
Bates and Gibbs paced the Union batters with two hits each.
The Yellowjackets banged out 16 hits as they took the second game in the series in extra innings.
Enterprise went up 3-0 in the third inning. Union scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie the game. They scored one in the 10th with one out to win the game. Bates pitched up the victory in relief of Jake Rawson, who started the game.
Rawson had two hits and knocked in the winning run. Bates had three singles and a RBI. Grant Gibbs had three singles while Austin Hood and Paul White ha two singles. Adam Richardson hit a double and a single.
Leake Central 9
Leake Central took the early lead and held on for the victory.
Hood took the pitching loss.
Gibbs hit a triple and a double to lead Union while Rawson added two doubles. Will Kennedy hit a double while Hood and Richardson both had two singles.
