Rockets roll up victories

The Neshoba Central Rockets got their baseball season back on track last week as they rolled up four victories, including three Region 3-5A victories.

The Rockets swept two games past Canton High School, 12-0 and 17-1. They then defeated Starkville 10-3 and closed out the week with a 4-3 win over Kosciusko.

The Rockets were to travel to Yazoo City Tuesday for a game that will decide the region championship. The Indians hold two wins over the Rockets but a Neshoba Central win would vault the Rockets into first place.

Neshoba Central will host Louisville on Friday, travel to Newton County on Saturday and close out the season at home on Monday against West Lauderdale.

The Rockets entered the week with a 15-4 overall record and 6-2 in the region standings.

The Rockets started off fast in their first game with Canton, scoring five in the first, four in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. Neshoba Central had a 7-1 hitting edge.

Peyton Clark belted a home run to lead the Rockets. Austin Harrison hit a triple and brought in two RBIs, while Taylor Irby added a double and three RBIs. K.J. Moore hit a double. John Carr Bates and Drew Coats added a single.

Brady Stephenson was the winning pitcher in the first Canton game while Tanner Salter took the victory in the second game.

Again, the Rockets started fast with eight runs in the first and nine in the third. Canton scored one run in the first.

Caleb Crenshaw, Moore and Chase McNair all hit a double and a single to lead the Rockets. Clark hit two singles; Drew Coats hit a double and brought in two runs; and, Bates and Taylor Irby both hit a single.

The Rockets started fast in their win over Starkville, scoring three runs in the first, four in the second, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. Starkville scored one in the first and two in the third.

Harrison was the winning pitcher. He finished with four strike outs.

Clark led the Rockets with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Crenshaw added a double and two singles. Joseph Willis added a double and a single while Harrison and Moore both had two hits.

The Rockets closed out the week with a hard-fought win over Kosciusko. Neshoba Central scored one in the first, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Kosciusko came back with one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Coats was the winning pitcher. He had four strikeouts.

Harrison led with a double and a single while Moore added two singles. Willis hit a single.
