The Hamilton-Burkes reunion will be held Saturday, April 19 at the Neshoba County Coliseum. Doors open at 10 a.m. Everyone please bring a covered dish to share. If you have any old pictures or genealogy you would like to share, we would love to see it. We look forward to seeing everyone there.


The monthly Alzheimers Caregivers Support Group will meet April 14 at 5:30 p.m. at East Philadelphia Baptist Church. The guest speaker will be Ray McNair LSWMFT, Director of Senior Life at Neshoba County General Hospital. All caregivers and family of persons with Alzheimers dementia are urged

to attend.

'Business Plan' Workshop

"How To Develop A Business Plan" is the topic of a workshop for existing small business owners and future entrepreneurs about the importance of establishing a sound and well-organized business plan. It is sponsored by East Central Community College's Small Business Development Center.

Philadelphia Football Registration

Time has come again for Philly Youth Football Registration of new and old players. If you are interested in playing football and cheering with Philly Youth Football and between the ages 4-12 years old,  please see the below names.

Community Choir Membership

We are about to start a choir that will include the entire community for our young people. We have lots of talent in our youth that needs to be brought to life.

God's Closet

God's Closet, a mission of First United Methodist Church, is encouraging families with students ages 4-years up to 18-years-old to register for school clothing and supplies that are free or charge. The mission is located in the Valley View Shopping Center and serves customers on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. To register you must present a birth certificate for each child and show two proofs of residency in Neshoba County. Donations of gently worn school clothing and uniforms many be dropped off at God's Closet on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.


In celebration of National Library Week, the Friends of the Neshoba County Public Library will hold a book sale Monday-Friday, April 14-18 inside the library beginning at 8 each morning. Gospel Concert

The Browders, Southern Gospel Quartet, will be in concert at Singleton United Methodist Church on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. The church is located 12 miles north of Carthage on Singleton Road. Camp Rainbow

Liberty Tax Service of Carthage and Kosciusko will be helping Camp Rainbow in Utica. Camp Rainbow, a nonprofit, is a place for cancer patients and survivors to go for a five-day retreat. Last year it lost all funding from the American Cancer Society. It takes $40,000 to run this five-day retreat. The public is invited to visit McMillan Park on Saturday, April 12 at 12 noon and purchase a chicken plate and drink. There will be live music for the adults and Space Jumpers for the kids. Neshoba SWCD Grain Drill for rent

The Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District has a 10 foot grain drill for rent. This equipment is eligible for use by landowners in and around Neshoba County.

The charge for using the drill is $5 per acre with a minimum of $50 per day.

You will need to sign a rental agreement and supply a $100 deposit prior to rental. The equipment will be inspected upon return.

You must have a 3/4 ton or larger truck to transport and a tractor with 70 or more horse power to pull.

This equipment should only be used in open fields which do not contain stumps or large rocks; such as pasture, hay land and cropland.

ECCC Choir, Ac'cents To Hold Auditions

The East Central Community College Concert Choir and Ac'cents show choir will hold auditions at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the Vickers Fine Arts Center on the Decatur Campus, Members of the Concert Choir receive half tuition scholarships and those selected for Ac'cents receive a full tuition scholarship.

Pre-K Registration

Philadelphia Public Schools will hold registration for Pre-K on April 7 from 3:15 until 6 p.m. These students will need to be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Kindergarten registration will be held on April 9 from 3:15 until 6 p.m. These students will need to be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014.

Information also required and must be presented by the legal guardian:

Certified copy of birth certificate; Social Security card; Immunization Compliance form 121, Must state complete for school entry; Guardianship papers, if applies; two proofs of residency: Driver's license, Automobile registration, apartment or home lease, voter precinct identification, filed homestead exemption application form or utility bills, i.e. phone bill, gas bill, electric bill, etc.


Mississippi Loggers Association Central District will hold its annual Log-A-Load auction on April 26 at 6 p.m. Fish and chicken plates for adults are $10 and children 12 and under are $5.

We will start serving at 4 p.m. It will be held at Mars Hill Volunteer Fire Department at the intersection of Road 397 and Mars Hill Road.

This will benefit the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.

Amazing Grace Church

Spring Revival


The Pleasant Valley Church family would like to invite everyone to their annual spring revival beginning Sunday, April 13 through Thursday, April 17. Sunday night service begins at 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday services begin at 7 p.m.

Registration for Neshoba County Youth Football and Cheer

Neshoba County Youth Football and Cheer is offering Early Bird Registration beginning February 28 and ending July 12. Cheer registration will be $85.00 as opposed to $100; includes a complete uniform. Five and 6 year old tackle is $40 as opposed to $50.

Seven to 12 year old tackle is $50 as opposed to $65. After the July 12 deadline all Early Bird prices will be void and registrants will be required to pay the regular in season fee. A copy of a live birth certificate is also required of each registrant.

Neshoba County Youth provides game jersey and game pants for all football season which is to be returned at the end of the season.

A lunch is also provided on in season away games for every child that is a part of cheer and tackle. There is an End of Year Banquet where awards for each child are provided during the banquet.

Ham Jam Hog Wild Run

The Sixth Annual Ham Jam Hog Wild Run, presented by Junior Auxiliary, will be held on April 12. A 5k run/walk and 1 mile fun run will be held. Entrance fees are $20 for 5k run/walk and $15 for fun run. A fee of $5 added for entries after April 4.

No T- shirt promised for participants who sign up after April 4. Race participants can pick up packets and/or sign up on race day from 6:30-7:45.

Good Friday Gospel Music Night

The public is invited to a free gospel music night at the Pearl River Amphitheater in Choctaw on April 18, at 6 p.m. Terry Terrel, a native Mississippian from Foxworth, will be performing some of his country gospel music ministry starting at 7:30 p.m.

Tutors Available

Parents, do your children need help with homework? Tutors are available on Mondays at the Booker T. Gym starting Monday, March 17 from 5-6 p.m.

This is for students in grades K-8 in subjects: reading/language arts and math.

Students will be tutored by retires teachers and/or volunteer teachers from our school districts, as well as administrators and parents from within the community.

All parents are responsible for their children getting to and from the gym.

Registration for Neshoba Pre-K

Registration for the pre-kindergarten program at Neshoba Central has been set for May. The Pre-Kindergarten Program is located at the Neshoba County Parent Resource Center building at Valley View.

Students are screened for enrollment by a pre-kindergarten test. The classes will begin and end to coincide with the regular school term at Neshoba County Schools. Participating students' parents will be require to provide transportation to and from the center. Anyone having a 4-year-old child and wishing for the child to be tested for the pre-K program must come to the Parent Resource Center to register the child between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 5-9.

It is not necessary for your child to be present on the day of registration. If all registration materials are presented, an appointment will be assigned for your child to be screened for placement.

To register a child for the pre-k screening, parents must provide: two proofs of residence in Neshoba County School District, the child's certified birth certificate, the child's Social Security card, the child's state certificate of immunization compliance and CDIB if applicable.
