Pay My Bill

1/16/2013 6:00:00 AM
Suspects remain at-large in two cases

Suspects remain at-large in connection with the theft of two televisions and $200 in cash in two unrelated crimes, which occurred in the city over the weekend.

On Friday about 5:45 p.m., two black males entered the Pizza Hut on Holland Avenue and took $200 from a cashier.

"They came in and ordered a sweet tea," Police Chief Bill Cox said. "When the cashier was making change, they reached over into the cash register and took the money."

The men left in a maroon Chevrolet Malibu.

On Sunday, Jan. 13 at 6:06 p.m., two televisions were taken in a burglary at a house on Byrd Avenue.

Cox said a suspect has been identified in the house burglary and is being sought by officers.

A screen door on the back of the house had been tampered with, he said.

Cox, who took over as police chief in November, said he has been working on a plan to help curtail crimes in the city.

"We've been looking at a plan and steps will be taken," he said.

Cox has already increased police patrols of business districts and residential neighborhoods.

"My officers have also been warned to be on the lookout," he said.

Cox urged residents to be on the lookout as well for any unusual activity in their neighborhoods.

"Be observant and follow your instincts," he said. "If something doesn't seem right then it probably isn't."
