A one-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a Neshoba County man after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree, the authorities said.
Gregory Tubby Jr., 27, of 101 Tika Chitto Dr., Choctaw, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer left the road in a curve, Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.
The accident occurred on Road 107.
Tubby and two passengers were traveling west near the Newton-Neshoba line when he lost control of his vehicle while going around a curve, Waddell said.
"They skidded along and then left the road, coming to a rest against some nearby trees. They were sliding sideways before they stopped," he said.
The passengers, Christopher Hickman and Chelsie Tubby, both of 146 Rolling Hills, were transported to Laird Hospital in Union.
"They did not have life threatening injuries," Waddell said.
Services for Tubby were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Pearl River Mennonite Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Hailey Brooke Tubby; and grandparents, Cicero and Mary Rose Tubby and Harris Johnson, Sr.
Survivors include parents, Arlene Frances Johnson and Gregory Tubby, Sr.; and sisters, Chelsie Danielle Tubby and Akela Shanise Tubby.
Pallbearers were Arrada Sam, Neal Vaughn, Merle Henry, Whitman Isaac, Kirk Williams, Eric Hickman, Jr., Johnny Clemmons and Jay Shumake.
