Marijuana delivery intercepted
By STEVEN THOMAS

Two people including a juvenile were arrested leaving the Philadelphia Post Office last week after picking up two packages containing "high grade" marijuana, the authorities said.

Chief of Police Bill Cox said the case stemmed from an anonymous tip and included officers from the sheriff and police departments and the state Bureau of Narcotics.

Cedric Love, 29, of 428 Hospital St., and a 17-year-old juvenile male were arrested Thursday about 4:30 p.m. and charged with felony possession of marijuana.

Officers, assisted by the U.S. Postal Inspector out of Jackson, staked out the Post Office and waited for someone to pick up the packages, Sheriff Tommy Waddell said.

The two left the Post Office walking along St. Francis Drive. When approached by officers, Love attempted to flee but was apprehended, the authorities said.

He was also charged with resisting arrest.

The packages containing the marijuana had been mailed to Philadelphia from California.

"It's more potent than what you'd find around here," Waddell said of the marijuana.

The juvenile was released into his mother's custody pending youth court action.

Love was later released on $20,600 bond, Waddell said.

Chief Cox said the two boxes contained just under a pound of marijuana, which had a street value of between $500 and $800 an ounce.

"The officers did an excellent job," he said. "I want to commend our officers, the Sheriff's office, MBN and the postal service. They jumped on it and saw it through to the end."
