The Neshoba Central Rockets tangle with Callaway this weekend in the first round of the Class 5A baseball state playoffs.

The Chargers will host the first game at 6 p.m. on Friday. Games 2 and if necessary 3 will be at Neshoba Central on Saturday with game 2 to begin at 2 p.m.

The Rockets come in at 16-6. Neshoba Central dropped an 8-2 decision to Yazoo City last week which decided the Region 3-5A championship. The Tornadoes bounced back to beat Louisville 9-0 but then closed out with a 4-3 loss at Newton County.

"I don't know that much about Callaway but we hear they have a pretty good ball club," Neshoba Central Coach Justin Stovall said. "We are in the playoffs now and we can't have a letdown."

Yazoo City went up early and held on for their win. The Indians scored four in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth. Neshoba Central scored two in the first.

The Rockets had seven hits. K.J. Moore led with two singles while Austin Harrison added a double. Zack Whittle took the loss.

The Rockets outhit Louisville 12-1. Neshoba Central scored one in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Peyton Clark, Drew Coats, Whittle and Moore all had a double and a single. Tanner Salter was the winning pitcher.

Newton County scored three in the seventh to slip past Neshoba Central. Harrison led the Rockets with a double and a single.
