Miss Enez Darby, of Philadelphia, received the master of arts degree from George Peabody College for Teachers at the recent commencement exercises there. Approximately 500 students received degrees. 



Miss Patty Sue Dansby was crowned as Miss Neshoba County 1949. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dansby. “Miss Mississippi”, Katherine wright, crowned Miss Dansby. The pageant is sponsored by the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

In recognition of his completion, John Brister was awarded the Eagle Scout at the Court of Honor. Hi s mother, Mrs. J. C. Brister pinned the badge on him. Receiving the Eagle Scout Badge is an honor and one of which John can be rightly proud. 


Milton L. Jenkins received the “Airman of the Month” trophy for the month of July. He is the son of Mrs. Vester Jenkins of Rt. Three Philadelphia. Airman Jenkins entered the service in 1951. Major Long presented Jenkins the award at Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia.



The Philly Number One Dixie Senior Boy’s baseball team won the Carthage Invitational tournament. The team is coached by Bob Davis. Mike Kuykendall and John Burt hit two homers. Lonnie Cumberland was named the tournament’s best sportsman.



Mitchell Korn appeared in several informal performances, or “informances”, during CART week in Neshoba County. Korn performed for the employees of Molpus Lumber Company. Korn also used a Pontiac during his week’s stay from Duncan and Sons’ Jimmy Cumberland. 

AUGUST 30, 1989

Former Neshoba Central star Mecridic Calloway has been named the starting left cornerback at the University of Houston for the 1989 season. Calloway started most of the season. The Cougars are coming off a 9-3 season that included a trip to Honolulu for the Eagle Aloha Bowl.

 J. Kelly Allgood, vice president for South Central Bell’s operations in Mississippi, recently presented the Mississippi Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America with a special Vice President’s “Spirit of Service” award. Receiving the award on behalf of the Meridian Council of the Telephone Pioneers is President Judy Ward.

AUGUST 25, 1999

The Neshoba County Forestry Association presented member Bobbie Jean Dickinson with awards for her service in recruiting more than 50 new members to the organization. Dickinson received two plaques for her efforts is recruiting new members. The first, a plaque from the Pulpwood Club for recruiting 25 members, and the second from the Sawtimber Club for recruiting 50 to 100 new members. Dickinson also received a belt buckle, a cap, and a jacket.

Mid-South Little Britches Rodeo Association recently awarded Ethan Bobo the title of All-Around Cowboy in the senior division for the 2008-2009 season. Bobo also finished third in steer wrestling, fourth in team roping, and first in tie-down roping. Ethan is the son of Todd and Angie Bob.
