If you like scoring plays and a hotly contested game that went down to the wire, Union's prep football game Friday night at Sebastopol was the place to be.

Union never trailed in its 54-34 win over the Bobcats, though the game was tied once. And both teams turned out a lot of yardage with the Yellowjackets holding a slight 428-424 yard edge.

It was a little too close for comfort for Union Coach Brad Breland who was happy to get out with a win.

"It was a pretty sloppy game on our part," Breland said. "We played hard and were glad to win but we have a lot of things to work on."

The Yellowjackets, now 2-1 on the season, hosts Choctaw County Friday night. The Chargers come in at 2-1 following its 31-21 win over North Pontotoc last week. Sebastopol, now 1-2, takes on West Oktibbeha.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellowjackets struck first with a pair of touchdowns.

With 11:38 left in the second quarter, quarterback Tre Bogan scored on a two-yard run. The try for two was no good and Union led 6-0.

Josef Butler scored the next Union points with 4:58 left in the second period when he ran in from nine-yards out. Malik Thompson ran in the two-point conversion and Union led 14-0.

Sebastopol got on the scoreboard with 3:10 left in the half when Cody Shaw passed to Eric Burkes on a 32-yard TD pass play. The extra point try failed and the Yellowjackets led 14-6.

Union answered with another touchdown as Bogan ran in from one-yard out. Butler ran in the two-point conversion to put his team up 22-6 with 49 seconds left in the half.

But the first half scoring show wasn't over as the Bobcats came back for another touchdown. Shaw passed to Josh Crutcher on an 11-yard TD pass play with 19 seconds left in the half. Markel Jones scored the two point conversion and Union led 22-14 at the half.

Sebastopol tied the game in the third quarter when Burkes ran 28 yards for a touchdown. Jones ran in the two point conversion and the game was knotted at 22-22 with 8:38 left in the third quarter.

That didn't last long as Butler ran 61 yards for a touchdown that put Union back on top. Butler scored the two point conversion and the Yellowjackets led 30-22 with 5:02 left in the third quarter.

Sebastopol came right back with Burkes returning the ensuing kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. The try for two failed and Union led 30-28 with 4:49 left in the third quarter.

But the Yellowjackets came back with a scoring play of their own when Bogan found Adrian Campbell on a 48-yard TD pass play. Butler ran in the two point conversion and the Yellowjackets led 38-28 with 3:03 left in the third quarter.

Sebastopol came right back with Colton Tharp running 70 yards for a touchdown. The extra point kick was blocked and Union led 38-34 with 11:34 left in the game.

Then the Yellowjackets scored a couple of touchdowns to put the game away.

First, Bogan scored on a one-yard run with 4:05 left. Tradarius Harris ran in the two point conversion to put Union up 46-34.

Then Bogan intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. James Huddleston scored the two point conversion to end the scoring for the night.

Union finished with 304 rushing yards on 44 carries. Bogan completed 7-of-10 passing attempts for 124 yards with Campbell catching six passes for 122 markers.

Butler was Union's leading yard gainer with 107 yards on 11 carries while Bogan had 105 yards on 15 carries. Huddleston rushed for 54 yards on nine carries.
