Yellowjackets ready for postseason

The Union Yellowjackets will open play in the Class 2A state baseball playoffs when they take on Enterprise-Lincoln this weekend.
This will be best two-out-of-three game series. The first game will be played at Enterprise-Lincoln on Friday night, starting at 6 p.m. The second game will be Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will be played Monday at Enterprise-Lincoln.
The Yellowjackets went 2-2 last week. They dropped a 4-3 decision to Leake Central. They then swept a double-header from Heidelberg, winning 15-0 and 23-2. Union closed out the week with a 1-0 loss to Stringer.
“I was very proud of our pitching and defense last week,” Coach Dustin Hamrick said. “We have struggled at times throughout the season. But we have to get the hits in the playoffs to be successful.
“I'm confident the bats will light up enough and feel real good about where we're headed and our chances in the first round of the playoffs,” said Hamrick.

Leake Central scored in the fourth inning to break open a tie game with Union.
Union scored one in the first, one in the second and one in the third. Leake Central answered with two in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth.
Trevor Patchin took the pitching loss. Cameron Brown also pitched.
Casey Morris connected with three singles. Parker Rigby hit a double and a single. J.T. Vance and Patchin both hit a single.

The Yellowjackets proved to be too much for the Oilers as they swept a double-header.
Lane Hanna was the winning pitcher in the first game. He pitched a no hitter and struck out seven batters.
The Yellowjackets banged out 10 hits. Cameron Sones hit a triple and two singles and knocked in two runs. Casey Morris had a hit and two RBIs. Rigby hit a double and a single while Patchin had two hits. Michael McDonald, Austin Tate and Kolton Cockerham all hit a single.
Hanna and Patchin teamed up hold the Oilers to two hits in the second game. Hanna had seven strike outs and Patchin had nine.
Sones paced the Yellowjackets with a triple and a double and four RBIs. Rigby hit two doubles.
Stringer plated a run in the third inning and held on to defeat Union.
Casey Morris took the pitching loss. He allowed five hits and struck out five batters.
Morris, McDonald, Hanna and Judd Young all had one hit.
