Warriors open baseball region play

The Choctaw Central baseball team opens Region 5-3A play this week as they try to get back on the winning track.
The Warriors came into this week with a 2-4 overall record. They were to play region foe Raleigh on Tuesday and visit Philadelphia on Friday. The Warriors have non-region games at home against Puckett on Thursday and at Newton High School on Saturday.
Last week, the Warriors dropped a pair of close games in the Meridian Spring Break Tournament at Q.V. Sykes field in Meridian. They opened with a 5-3 loss to Morton, and the fell 3-1 to Ethel High School.
Brandon Kennedy threw seven strikeouts in the Warriors' loss to Morton. The Panthers scored two in the fourth and three in the seventh, The Warriors scored one in the first and two in the second. Kennedy helped his cause with a double while Demarquis Wilson, Merrick Hickman, Dakota Kennedy and Micah Mingo all hit singles.
The Warriors scored their only run against Ethel in the seventh inning. Ethel answered with two in the fourth and one in the seventh. Wilson was the losing pitcher. Brandon Kennedy hit a double and Dakota Kennedy added a single.
