The Union High School Yellowjackets claimed a pair of victories last week and wrapped up the No. 1 seed in this week's Region 5-2A tournament, which is being held at Puckett High School.
Union started the week with a 72-61 win over Puckett, and then defeated Scott Central 56-52 to wrap up their regular season with a 19-6 record.
The Yellowjackets received a first round bye which qualifies them for next week's South State Class A tournament. They will play the winner between Puckett and Leake Central Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
"We returned several good players from last year and I felt like we would be strong in our region," Union coach Scott Thomas said. "But we have played really well in most of our games, and we played a pretty strong non-district schedule.
"We have had a good season. Now we'll see how we do in the playoffs."
Quinton Campbell scored 26 points and Carmein Brown added 22 points in the Yellowjackets' win over Puckett. Leading 33-23 at the half, Union poured in 25 points in the third quarter and held on for the victory.
The Yellowjackets avenged their only region loss Friday night as they defeated Scott Central. Leading 26-16 at the half, the Yellowjackets held off a furious Rebel comeback in the second half. Campbell scored 19 points to lead Union while Brown added 14 and Tre Bogan came up with nine points.
The Union girls opened the tournament Monday with a game against Clarkdale. Union closed the season with a 70-25 loss to Scott Central.
