The Union Yellowjackets opened postseason play with a 32-17 victory over Richton Friday night in prep football action.

The Yellowjackets improved to 10-2 on the season as they moved to the second round of the state class 2-A playoffs. They host the Mize Bulldogs this Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Mize opened the playoffs last week with a 44-6 win over Amite County and comes in with an 9-2 record.

"Mize is a program with a lot of tradition," Union coach Brad Breland said. "They like to run and pass the ball but their main threat is the big play. We have got to work to contain that."

Tre Bogan returned an interception 10 yards for a touchdown. Jesse Gill scored the two point conversion and the Yellowjackets led 8-0.

Union scored again when Gill connected with Bogan on a 60-yard TD pass play. Bogan scored the two-point conversion and Union led 16-0.

Richton scored a touchdown and kicked a field goal to make the score 16-10. Right before the half, Gill scored on a three-yard run. Adrian Campbell scored the two point conversion to make the score 24-10 at the half.

Richton scored in the third quarter to make the score 24-17. The in the fourth quarter, Gill scored on a three-yard run to seal the deal. Laviel Wells scored the two point conversion. James Huddleston led the defense with 21 tackles.
