Union sweeps Enterprise Lincoln in state playoffs

The Union Lady Yellowjackets advanced to the second round of the state Class 2-A South state fast-pitch softball by sweeping Enterprise-Lincoln last week.
Union defeated Enterprise 9-0 in the first game and 6-4 in the second game. Union, now 11-16, was to play Puckett in the second round beginning on Monday, weather permitting.
"We were proud to have advanced to the next round of the playoffs," Coach Jacob Casey said. "This team has worked hard and they have come a long way."
The Lady Yellowjackets kept up a steady attack as they took the first victory.
Union scored two in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Anna Rigdon was the winning pitcher. She had six strikeouts.
Kristen Kennedy, Averi Pender, Teri Ann Mayfield and Lilly Burton all had two hits to lead the Lady Yellowjackets.
Union took the early lead and held on for the victory.
Union scored three in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth. Enterprise answered with three in the third and one in the fourth.
Rigdon was the winning pitcher.
Pender hit a home run and a double while McKenzie Dolan added two singles.
