Union opens against St. Joe

The Union Yellowjackets will take on Madison St. Joseph in the first round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs.
Game one is set for Thursday at Union. Games two and three, if necessary, will be played at St. Joseph.
The Yellowjackets enter the playoffs after closing the regular season on a losing note. Starting last week, they lost 3-1 to Nanih Waiya, 6-0 to Leake Central, 1-0 to Southeast Lauderdale and 15-3 on Monday night to Newton County.
Union enters the playoffs with a 10-14 record.
Grant Gibbs had two hits to lead the Yellowjackets against Nanih Waiya. Dustin Bates had six strike outs in a losing cause.
The Yellowjackets couldn't plate any runs in their loss to Leake Central. Zack Mowdy had seven strike outs. Jake Rawson had two hits.
It was more of the same in a close loss to Southeast Lauderdale. Union had five hits with Rawson, Taylor Coker, Paul White, Austin Hood and Walker Kelly all getting a single.
