Union hopes to get on track

Both Union High School basketball teams will try to get their seasons on try this weekend when they play in the Choctaw Central Invitational.
Both Yellowjacket team will take on Choctaw Central on Friday night with the girls game starting at 7 p.m. and the boys to follow. The finals will be Saturday night.
Last week was a long week for both Union teams as they lost to West Lauderdale and Newton County.
The Union boys dropped a 47-32 decision to West Lauderdale and then lost 70-53 at Newton County.
West Lauderdale led 16-15 at the end of the first half. But then the Knights got off to a quick start in the third quarter and pulled out the victory. Quinton Campbell led the Yellowjackets with 16 points.
Campbell also led the Yellowjackets in scoring against Newton County as he tossed in 27 points. Tre Bogan added 13.
"We have been playing tough competition but we just haven't been playing consistently as a team," Coach Scott Thomas said. "Hopefully, we will get on track this weekend. We are getting closer and closer to our region schedule."
Kimmaria Jackson led the Lady Yellowjackets in their 45-35 loss to West Lauderdale. Union then battled Newton County close before falling 44-40. Natasha McCune was the leading scorer with 18 points.
