The Union Yellowjackets are preparing to take on one of their regular rivals when they open the season at home against Nanih Waiya in prep football action.

Both teams made the playoffs last year. Union finished with an 8-5 overall record and placed No. 2 in Region 5-2A. Nanih Waiya finished with a 7-5 record and placed fourth in the Region 3-!A standings.

In their meeting last year, Union defeated Nanih Waiya 24-12.

"They always play us tough," Coach Brad Breland said. "They have 18 starters back and I see no reason why they won't be good again this year."

Breland said the Warriors have a history of being a run-oriented team.'

"They have always run the ball in the past and I'm sure they will do the same this year," Breland said. "Our defense has to be ready to stop them."

Yon can look for the Yellowjacket defensive front to have a busy night. The Yellowjackets line up in a five man front. Ryan Ladd and Chris Smith will share time at nose guard. Those playing defensive tackle will be Deondre Walker, Hunter Little, Ryan Baysinger, Walker Kelly and Connor Breland. The defensive ends will be Marvin Norris, Austin Hood, Quinton Campbell and Quidarian Jackson.

The Yellowjackets got their first taste of action last Friday when they battled Newton County to a 12-6 loss in the Lake jamboree.

Tradarius Harris scored Union's only touchdown on a five-yard run.

"It was a good scrimmage," Breland said. "We played hard. Now we are playing for real this week."
