The Union High School Yellowjackets evened their record at 2-2 with a 30-12 victory over J.Z. George Friday night in prep football action.

The Yellowjackets will be back in action this Friday night when they visit Newton County. The Cougars enter the game with a 1-3 record following last Friday’s 34-28 loss to Southeast Lauderdale.

“We really played hard and stayed after them,” Coach Brad Breland said. “We are going to need the same effort Friday night when we play Newton County. It is going to be tough to match up with their size.”

J.Z. George got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when Malik Christian ran 51-yards for a touchdown. The try for two failed and the Jaguars held a 6-0 lead.

Union scored its first points in the second quarter when Kenyon Clay ran 92 yards for a touchdown. The try for two failed. At the half, the teams were tied at 6-6.

Jaylon Buckley scored on a 37-yard run to give the Yellowjackets a 12-6 lead in the third quarter. The try for two failed.

But the Jaguars returned with an 80-uard kickoff return. The run failed and the game was tied again at 12-12.

Kenyon Clay put the Yellowjackets back in front when he ran 41 yards for a touchdown. The run failed. Later, Clay connected with Dylan Harrison on a 20-yard TD pass play. The run failed and the Yellowjackets went up 24-12,

The Jaguars fumbled the ball deep in their territory and Markus Jones recovered the ball for a Union touchdown. The extra point was not good but this play sealed the deal.

Clay had 20 yards in passing while rushing 24 times for 234 yards, giving him 254 yards. Buckley had 64 yards on nine rushed.
