The Union Yellowjackets improved to 6-2 on the season with victories over Clarkdale, Leake County and Choctaw Central last week in prep basketball action.

The Yellowjackets defeated Clarkdale 75-40 and Leake County 55-39 to collect a pair of region victories. And then they defeated the Warriors 69-57.

Union coach Scott Thomas knew the players on both sides, having coached at Choctaw Central for so many years. He is in his second season at Union.

"The win over Choctaw Central was big," Thomas said. "Our kids played well.

"I know most of the players on Choctaw Central and still love them. I know all of their coaches and we are good friends but this was a good win for our program at Union," Thomas said.

The Union girls, meanwhile, defeated Clarkdale 43-40 in overtime, Leake County 62-36, and then dropped a 68-41 decision to Choctaw Central. The Lady Yellowjackets enter the week with a 4-4 record.
