The Union Lady Yellowjackets have qualified for the State Class 2A playoffs after starting the season with a 1-11 record.
"We have been playing a lot of young players and it took a while to get to where we were winning games," Union Coach Jacob Casey said. "But they have worked hard and I am very proud of the way they have hung in there. It feels great to make the playoffs."
Union took a 12-11 win over Scott Central and a 6-5 win over Lake last week which improved its Region 5-2A record to 6-3. The Lady Yellowjackets could be the second or third place team out of the region, depending on the results of the Clarkdale-Enterprise game which will be played Tuesday.
"If Clarkdale wins, we will be the No. 3 team," Casey said. "If Enterprise wins, we will be the No. 2 team. Either way, we will be playing Thursday against either Richton or Mize."
