The Union High School boys swept a pair of games last week in prep basketball action.

First, the Yellowjackets took a 57-42 win over Region 5-2A foe Leake County, and then they defeated Newton County 61-59. The Union girls defeated Leake County 64-30, but lost to Newton County 60-46.

The Yellowjackets took control of their game with Leake County early. Leading 12-5 after the first quarter, Union outscored the Gators 21-9 in the second quarter to go up 33-14 at the half. After a slow third quarter, Union outscored Leake County 18-12 in the final period to wrap up the win. Tre Bogan led the Yellowjackets with 16 points. D.J. Brown added 15 while Quinton Campbell added 14.

The Union boys improve to 15-6.

The Union girls went up 24-6 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back in their win over Leake County. The Lady Yellowjackets outscored Leake County 16-2 in the second period and led 40-8 at the half. Kia Rogers led Union with 19 points while Erica Huddleston added 10.

Rogers scored 22 points in the Lady Yellowjackets' loss to Newton County.

Union has two games this week. They host Enterprise on Tuesday and Lake on Friday night.

Super Jacket Day

Don't forget about "Super Jacket Day" which will be held at the Union High School sports complex.

There will be instructional camps for grades 1-6 in baseball and softball. There will also be a mixed doubles tennis tournament.

The camps will start at 8 a.m. and run until noon at the high school fields.
