The Philadelphia High School baseball team split a pair of games last week in the spring tournament held in Meridian.

The Tornadoes dropped a 14-1 decision to Newton County, and then came back to stop Enterprise 3-2.

The Tornadoes have two games this week. They were to host Forest on Friday and Noxapater on Saturday.

Newton County went up early and took the win over Philadelphia. Fent Mars and Tyler Partridge both had hits for Philadelphia.

Greg Eiland came on in the seventh inning to knock in the winning run against Enterprise. Johntreal Pickens was the winning pitcher. Mars and Romon Gray both had two hits while Luke Eldridge and T.J. Hudson both added singles.

"This was a big win for us," coach Cody Freeman said. "We've been playing hard and we needed it as we head into district play."
