Tornadoes roll over McClain for 71-0 win

The Philadelphia Tornadoes improved to 2-0 on the season Friday night with a 71-0 blowout of Lexington McClain in prep football action at Harpole Field.

The 2-0 Tornadoes will visit rival Neshoba Central Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
"Our defense played very well," Coach Teddy Dyess said. "We still have some things to fix on offensive, especially on our line. We just have to keep getting better."
The Tornadoes put 35 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Fent Mars recovered a fumble on the McClain 26-yard line to set up the first score. Jacardius Griffin rushed for nine yards and Romon Gray added another 13 markers. Then fullback Kenshon Henderson burst into the end zone for the touchdown. John Harold Smith kicked the extra point and the Tornadoes led 7-0 with 10:51 left in the first quarter.
McClain fumbled on the insuring kickoff and Jaylon Carter recovered for the Tornadoes on the McClain 35-yard line. But the Mustangs held the Tornadoes to four downs this time. On its next possession, Gray put the Tornadoes in the end zone. Smith's kick was good and Philadelphia led 14-0 with 6:13 left in the first quarter.
The Mustangs went four-and-out, and the Tornadoes got ready for another score. This time, Gray caught a 22-yard TD pass from Johntreal Pickens. Smith's kick was true and the Tornadoes led 21-0 with 3:33 left in the first quarter.
On third down following the kickoff, K.J. Peebles recovered a Mustang fumble and Philadelphia took over on the McClain 9-yard line. Following a couple of penalties, Gray connected with Abe Mars on a 19-yard TD pass play. Smith's extra point kick was good and Philadelphia led 28-0 with 59 seconds left in the first quarter.
Philadelphia kicked off and Jaylen Davis recovered for the Tornadoes on the McClain 33-yard line. Griffin took the ball on back-to-back-to-back rushes and scored from five-yards out with seven seconds left in the first quarter. Smith kicked the extra point.
The Tornadoes added 19 more points in the second quarter. First they put together a nine-play drive that ended in a two-yard run by Henderson. Smith's kick was true and Philadelphia led 42-0 with 6:37 left in the second quarter.
Later in the quarter, McClain fumbled into the end zone and Josh Rush recovered for a touchdown. Smith's kick was good. Then McClain fumbled again into the end zone and this time they fell on the ball for a safety. The final score of the half came on a 36-yard field goal by Smith to make the score 54-0 at the intermission.
Junior running back Dontae Poe scored on a 23-yard run in the third quarter. Smith's extra point kick was good and the Tornadoes led 61-0. In the fourth quarter, Rush returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown and Smith added a 39-yard field goal to end the scoring.
McClain drops to 0-2 on the season.
