Philadelphia High School put 46 points on the scoreboard in the first half as they Tornadoes rolled up a 53-6 victory over Southeast Lauderdale Friday night in prep football action.

The Tornadoes, now 8-0, will host Heidelberg this Friday night at Harpole Field. The Oilers come in with a 2-6 record but have won their last two games. Both teams stand at 2-0 in the Region 5-3A standings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

"We are 2-0 in the region and that's the important thing," Philadelphia head coach Teddy Dyess said. "We didn't get a first down on our first possession and I think that woke everyone up.

"We played hard but there are still things that we have to work on. We've got Heidelberg this week and they are 2-0 in the region, too. That's what we have to focus on," Dyess said.

Philadelphia finished with a 16-4 edge in first downs. The Tornadoes rolled up 426 total yards on offense. Philadelphia had 316 yards on 41 rushes, and completed 5-of-7 passes for 110 yards. The Tigers had negative-two yards in total offense. Southeast Lauderdale had -38 yards rushing on 13 carries and 36 passing.

The Tornadoes went three-and-out on their first drive, but came back strong on their second possession of the game. Jacardius Griffin scored on a two-yard run, and then ran in the two point conversion to put the Tornadoes up 8-0.

Later in the first quarter, Romon Gray connected with Kaylon Gray on a 32-yard touchdown pass play. John Harold Smith kicked the extra point and Philadelphia led 15-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tornadoes really got rolling in the second quarter. Romon Gray scored on a 20-yard run while Griffin added two touchdowns on runs of 45 and six yards. Tucked in between those two scores was a touchdown by Kenshon Henderson that came on a two-yard run.

Smith kicked all four extra points and then added a 19-yard field goal and the Tornadoes carried a 46-0 lead in at the half.

Southeast Lauderdale got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Padarius Martin scored on a one-yard run. The extra point try was no good and the Tornadoes led 46-6. Ahmad Tatum scored Philadelphia's final points in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard run. Gray Moorehead kicked the extra point.

Gray was the leading rusher with 131 yards on 10 carries. He also completed 4-of-6 passing attempts for 103 yards. For the season, the junior quarterback has rushed 83 times for 694 yards and seven touchdowns. Gray has also completed 22-of-55 passing attempts for 368 yards and seven touchdowns. He has been intercepted five times.

Griffin picked up 117 yards against Southeast Lauderdale on 15 carries. For the season, he has 771 rushing yards on 107 carries. Griffin has scored 11 touchdowns during the 2012 campaign.

Kaylon Gray had two catches for 38 yards while T.J. Hudson caught one pass for 56 yards.

Kaleb Moore was the leading tackler with eight. Fent Mars added seven while Ken Triplett had five tackles and a sack, and Zack Ingrum had five tackles.
