Tornadoes host Wilkinson County in second round

The Philadelphia Tornadoes take their second step into the state Class 3A playoff Friday night when they host Wilkinson County in prep football action.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Tornadoes enter the game with a 12-0 record. They opened the playoffs with a 42-0 victory over Collins last Friday.
Wilkinson County beat Morton 58-32 in their playoff opener. The Wildcats stand at 9-2 with their only losses coming to Jefferson County 25-24 and Hazlehurst 35-22. Those two defeats left the Wildcats as the third place team in Region 7-3A.
"They are a big, physical football team," Philadelphia coach Teddy Dyess said. "They are fast. They have a balanced attack but seem to like to run the ball more."
Dyess said it appears this will be the final home game of the season for Philadelphia and they will be on the road the rest of the way.
Leading the Wildcats attack is junior quarterback/safety Devin Voorhies, who appears to be held to LSU after his high school playing days are over.
The Tornado defense put three touchdowns on the scoreboard during the Collins victory with interception returns.
The Tornadoes took the opening kickoff against Collins and drove 54 yards in seven plays for a touchdown. Junior quarterback Romon Gray scored on a 10-yard run and Philadelphia led 7-0 with 8:36 left in the first quarter.
Three plays after the ensuing kickoff, Anthony Triplett intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. Smith was true on the kick and Philadelphia led 14-0 with 7:40 left in the first quarter.
Johntreal Pickens got into act later in the first quarter when he returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. Again, Smith kicked the extra point and Philadelphia led 21-0 with 3:01 left in the first quarter.
Running back Jacardius Griffin scored two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of two and one yards. Smith kicked both extra points and Philadelphia led 35-0 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Kaleb Moore intercepted a pass for the Tornadoes and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown. Smith kicked his sixth extra point to end the scoring.
Collins finished the season with a 5-8 record.
The Tornadoes finished with 175 yards rushing on 35 carries, and 80 yards passing for 255 total yards. Gray had 78 yards rushing on 13 carries and completed one pass for 59 yards to Anthony Triplett. Griffin was the leading rusher with 65 yards on 18 carries.
Keylon Burnside was the leading tackler with 10. He also had a sack. Fent Mars has seven tackles and Malek Moore had six.
For the season, Griffin has 1,345 yards rushing on 17- carries and has scored 21 touchdowns. Gray has rushed for 975 yards on 120 carries, and has completed 33-of-66 passing attempts for 562 yards and nine touchdowns. He has scored 12 rushing touchdowns. Kaylon Gray has nine catches for 134 yards and Abe Mars has nine catches for 105 yards.
Fent Mars leads the team in tackles with 88 while Moore has 68 and Malek Moore has 58.
