Philadelphia High School basketball Coach Jason Broom said his team has to learn to hold on to a lead if they hope to go very far in the upcoming Region 5-3A tournament.

"We have a lot of seniors on this team and we have potential," Broom said. "But when we get a lead, we seem to relax and lose our momentum. It's hard to get that momentum back after that."

The Tornadoes entered the week with a 9-12 record. They have three region games scheduled this week with two being on the road. They were to host Forest Tuesday and then play at Raleigh on Thursday and at Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.

"This is a big week for us," Broom said.

Philadelphia got one game in last week because of the weather. The boys dropped a 61-48 to Choctaw Central while the Lady Tornadoes lost 72-30.

Philadelphia trailed 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. Choctaw Central would outscore the Tornadoes 17-14 in the second quarter and led 28-25 at the half. The second half belonged to Choctaw Central as they outscored the Tornadoes 37-14 in the second half. Ricky Triplett scored 11 points to lead the Tornadoes while Josh Fulton added 10 points.

The Choctaw Central girls jumped out to a 33-23 halftime lead and never looked back. Kenyatta Moore led the Lady Tornadoes with 17 points.
