Tornadoes have big game with Warriors

The Philadelphia High School Tornado baseball team hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive Friday when the Tornadoes play host to Choctaw Central.
The Tornadoes improved their Region 5-3A record to 3-3 last week with a 10-2 win over Newton High School. In their only other game, Philadelphia dropped a 10-3 decision to Neshoba Central.
"Choctaw Central will be a big game for us," Coach Cody Freeman said. "We have to win this one to keep our playoff hopes alive."
Against Newton, the Tornadoes scored 10 in the first, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. Newton scored two in the first. Romon Gray was the winning pitcher.
Johntreal Pickens led Philadelphia with a home run and a single while Baily Smith and T.J. Hudson both had two hits. Greg Allen hit a single.
Neshoba Central jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Pickens took the pitching loss. Allen and Fent Mars both had a single for the Tornadoes.
