The Philadelphia Tornadoes came back from the Christmas break and got off to a slow start against Morton on Saturday.

While the Tornadoes may have started slow, they finished strong as they came from behind to beat the Panthers 56-48. 

The Lady Tornadoes also rolled to another win as they beat the Lady Panthers 76-41.

Philly was scheduled to return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Leake County. Philly will then travel to Newton on Friday to open Division 6-2A play.

The Tornadoes will host the Philadelphia Shootout on Saturday. The Tornadoes teams play Newton County with the girls starting at 5 p.m. and the boys at 6:30 p.m.

The schedule for the Philadelphia Shootout is as follows:

11 a.m. — East Webster vs. McAdams girls

12:30 p.m. — East Webster vs. McAdams boys

2 p.m. — Leake Central vs. Caledonia girls

3:30 p.m. — Leake Central vs. Caledonia boys

5 p.m. — Philadelphia vs Newton County girls

6:30 p.m. — Philadelphia vs. Newton County boys

The Tornadoes overcame a slow start as they outscored the Panthers in the last three periods to take an eight-point win on Saturday.

Morton led 11-5 at the end of the first period before Philadelphia got going and outscored the Panthers 22-16 to tie the game at 27-27 at the half. Philly took the lead in the third period as they outscored Morton 17-14 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth.

Jordan Hill led Philly with 21 points while Tanner Bowler added 14 points.

The Lady Tornadoes outscored the Lady Panthers in every period and cruised to a 35-point win.

Philly jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first period and then outscored Morton 25-13 in the second to lead 42-21 at the half. Philly kept on adding to its lead as they outscored Morton 18-11 in the third and 16-9 in the fourth.

Nia Luckett led Philly with 27 points while Zharia Leflore had 13 points.
