The Philadelphia Tornadoes battled West Marion down to the final play of the game before dropping an 18-16 decision at Foxworth Friday night in the third round of the state football class 3A playoffs.

Philadelphia finished its season with a13-1 record. West Marion, now 13-0, moves on to play Hazlehurst Friday in the South State Class 3A championship game.

West Marion scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter to go up 6-0.

The Tornadoes fought back to take the lead in the second quarter. Romon Gray scored on a 16-yard run. John Harold Smith kicked the extra point and the Tornadoes led 7-6. Later, Philadelphia scored a safety and led 9-6 at the half.

Both teams scored in the third quarter. West Marion connected on a 15-yard TD pass and missed the extra point. Philadelphia's Jacardius Griffin scored on a one-yard run. Smith kicked the extra point and the Tornadoes led 16-12 going into the fourth quarter.

West Marion scored on a 74-yard TD pass to go up by two. Philadelphia drove down to the West Marion one-yard line and went for a field goal but it no good and the game was over.
